School Travel
As part of our commitment to encourage active and sustainable travel we always recommend that parents and children walk to school. We understand, however, that this is not always possible.
For those who have to drive to school, we have introduced a Voluntary One-Way system in Broadmoor Lane between 8.30am to 9.15am and 2.45pm to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. Broadmoor Lane is a narrow road, and in some places has no pedestrian footpath. It gets particularly busy at morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
We have also introduced the WASPS 5-minute Walking Bubble, a voluntary car-free zone around WASPS, which encourages families to park at least 5 minutes away from school, creating a safer space for walking, cycling and scooting.
By having these restrictions, we hope we can ease congestion in Broadmoor Lane and make the area around the school safer for parents, children and local residents alike.
The Modeshift Stars Scheme
The scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people.
We have produced a Walking Bubble map which we hope will encourage families that have to travel by car to park at least 5 minutes away from school, creating a safer space for walking, cycling or scooting.
Bikeability cycle training
Bikeability is a cycling training programme that aims to help you cycle to the National Cycling Standard. It’s about gaining practical skills and becoming confident to make safe and responsible on-road journeys.
WASPS pupils take part in several activities and workshops, and some have even completed the Level 2 Bikeability course!
