Nurturing spirituality, creativity and excellence

Early Years

Little WASPS Intent

At WASPS our focus is on establishing a strong bedrock of skills and routines that will sustain the children’s learning alongside their friends.

The reception team offers a combination of adult-led and child-initiated learning, providing imaginative resources to support this, while benefiting from an environment that promotes physical outdoor exploration. We also believe in the importance of nurturing the children’s love of reading.

We focus on our school’s Christian ethos and actively put into practise our Christian values of service, thankfulness and compassion.

We encourage children to take ownership of their learning through the self-selection of resources inside and outside and to use these to imagine and create. We support them to learn through play and help them build their confidence and resilience by being braver learners, risk takers and problem solvers. We encourage them to respect one another by listening to and contributing to the ideas of others, thereby developing their personal, social and emotional wellbeing. All achievements are celebrated.

We focus on the joy of learning and having fun.

Environment

Our youngest children have their very own, purpose built building fondly named Little WASPS. Our team of highly experienced Early Years staff support the children on their learning journey at WASPS. The children learn and discover in classes of approximately 30 children with a teacher with some support from a learning support assistant.

Our children learn best when they are stimulated and engaged with their learning, opportunities are provided for the children to explore, question and seek challenge. Learning is centred around play, collaboration and talk using the indoor classrooms as well as the wonderful school grounds to achieve the Early Learning Goals at the end of the academic year. The children are provided with opportunities to flourish whilst developing independence, curiosity and resilience.
