Sophie Dyer

Sophie was elected a Parent Governor at WASPS in 2017 and after 3.5 years, converted to Community Governor.  She held this position for 1.5 years, until she became Chair in September 2022.

She was previously a class rep and member of WASPS SMAG (school meals action group), Travel Plan and Environment teams, and an active member of the PTA, whilst her children attended WASPS, so she has worked with WASPS for the last 13 years!

She works full time as a Business Services Manager for the UK and Ireland Office, and as International Project coordinator for a global company based in the US.

She had an interesting and varied career, have worked as Account and Operations Manager, as a Division Administrator and Graduate Program Manager, as well as a cleaner, waitress, and even in a chocolate factory!

She is passionate about diversity and inclusion, enjoys art and crafts, growing her own vegetables, baking, tennis, and now skiing which she has just learnt to do at age 49!

Andrew Moore

Community Governor

Andrew is married with four grown up children and four grandchildren. The family spent twenty years living on a smallholding in North Devon with 50 sheep, 20 goats and two donkeys. Andrew and Linda now live in Combe Down, Bath.

Andrew, Linda and two of his children are teachers. Andrew started his career in a comprehensive school near Southampton and ended it as a headteacher in Devon. He has taught in a variety of different schools, maintained and private; and taught children from seven years old to eighteen. He has also had responsibility for a nursery and infants as a headteacher. He has worked closely with governors in the past, but this is his first time as a governor.

He is a keen sportsman and still plays football at over 60s level for Keynsham and Somerset. He supports Southampton and Bath City FC and tries to take his grandchildren to matches when possible. He enjoys walking, travelling, reading and a wide range of music from reggae to classical. He is a member of Holy Trinity Church, Combe Down and enjoys church activities.

Harry Giblin

Community Governor

Harry is a Structural Engineer with over 10 years of design and management experience gained at various consultancies. His work involves the assessment and design of buildings and bridges, with a wide variety of project types, from multi-storey tower blocks to historic renovations.

He is a father of two young boys, one of whom currently attends WASPS, with the other hopefully joining soon. He was keen to become a Governor to support the furthered improvement of an excellent school.

He is a former chairman of the Institution of Civil Engineers Bath City Club. Since stepping down from the chair, he has remained active in organising monthly talks for engineers and members of the public.

Anita Walker

Community Governor

James Canton

Parent Governor

James is a father of two children at WASPS. He volunteered to be a Parent Governor because he sees the school as central to the community and wants to support its work in giving every child the best start.

He works as a senior leader at UK Research and Innovation, the UK’s largest public funder of science and innovation. UKRI supports research across many fields, including phonics and early learning. His role focuses on how science, evidence and data support better government policymaking, and he leads programmes on AI, local economic growth and improving public services. He has wide experience working with government and universities, including funding education projects and engaging with education stakeholders in the UK and internationally.

James has lived in Bath for around twenty years and completed his undergraduate degree, Masters and PhD at the University of Bath. Outside work, he enjoys running, cycling and spending time with his family in and around the city.
