Physical Education

Our Intent for Physical Education

At WASPS, we believe that PE is an essential component of school life, both in terms of the physical fitness and skills it develops, as well as the way it actively supports physical and mental wellbeing – something that is essential to children accessing all other areas of the whole school curriculum to the best of their abilities.

“Intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong.” – John F Kennedy

We aim to provide a PE curriculum that ensures that pupils from Reception to Year 6 experience and enjoy a wide range of sporting activities that help them to develop their health, fitness and wellbeing. Our curriculum provides a high-quality physical education that has a progression of skills that means our children to make improvements in their ability no matter what their starting point. All children experience high-quality teaching of PE, whether this is from their own class teacher or the external providers that we use.

The WASPS PE curriculum strives to inspire pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It provides opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness and to develop their resilience, communication and team work skills.

“I’ve failed over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” – Michael Jordan

We firmly believe that having opportunities to compete in sport and other activities builds character and helps to embed values such as fairness, respect and further teaches them to take responsibility for their own behaviour.

“The game is never more important than the people you play with.”  –  Debra Demaline Maxted
